Whats the easiest way to remember things?!

Question:

Whats the easiest way to remember things?

If you all of a sudden forgot what you are doing, whats a quick way to remember?

Answers:

Bill Cosby used to have a routine in which he said something along the lines of, "I keep forgetting things, and I have discovered there is a switch that makes me forget. And it's right HERE," he said, pointing to his butt.

It's true that we often think of something whilst sitting down, then stand up and walk into another room to go do whatever it was, and then find ourselves in that room unable to remember what it was we wanted.

Personally, I just go back to where I was sitting and try to return mentally to whatever I was doing. If it was important, it usually comes to me because I'm back in the original circumstances that made me want to get/do whatever it was.

Another option is to stop yourself as soon as you decide, "I want ____" and detail to yourself what you're going to do. For instance, if you're sitting at the computer and you want a bagel, you can think real quick, "Okay, I'm going to stand up, walk to the kitchen, open the freezer, take out the green bagel bag, pop the bagel in half with a fork, and put the bagel halves in the toaster." It won't make you remember what you wanted should you forget, but going over that process in a conscious fashion can help you cling to *some* information, if not all. Like, you might find yourself in the kitchen going, "What did I want? ... well, it was green, whatever it was." It sounds kind of silly, but it works.

There are a lot of mnemonic devices you can use to remember things like that. Here's a short list: http://www.byui.edu/studyskillscenter/mn...
