Contacts causing bloodshot eyes?!

Question:

Contacts causing bloodshot eyes?

I have been wearing contacts for over 12 years. I never sleep with them in and I change them on time. Recently, every time I put them in my eyes become REALLY bloodshot. I have never had any signs of any allergies (although it is high season now) and now I am stuck wearing my glasses all day long. When I wear my glasses the redness disappears. Could it be an infection or just allergies? Thanks!

They are a bit dry but not enough to need drops.. and every once in a while they will itch but nothing intense enough to really notice.

I haven't changed brands either. I just changed them two weeks ago, so they're fresh. I didn't change solution brand either. If it was an infection wouldn't they be red with my glasses on also?

Answers:

Have you changed the brand of contacts you wear? I changed brands, and had a little trouble at first, but my eyes adjusted.

If you have been having this problem for more than a week, I would suggest seeing your eye care professional to rule out an infection. Some eye infections can cause corneal ulcers which can lead to blindness.
