Slimey uvula (That thingie in the back of your throat)?!

Question:

Slimey uvula (That thingie in the back of your throat)?

For the past few days I have had a bit of a cold, nothing major, but I have the feeling I have something in the back of my throat that I can't swallow down. First I thought it was phlegm but that usually goes down after using cough medicine or eating some dry bread.

This time though, it is not going away and driving me insane! I can't sleep because of it, as it gets much worse when I lay down. It feels like there is somehting hanging off my uvula, which is that flappy thing in the back of your throat. It feels like water but it won't go away. I had a look with a torch and it looks kind of slimey. I can't really describe it any better than that. It doesnt hurt, it's just very annoying and makes me want to swallow all the time!

Has anyone had this before? Does it have a name? Anything I can do about it? It seems too unimportant to go see the doc but I am ready to cut the damn thing out!

I know I am going to get a few jokey replies to this one. Go on, I can take it! :D
