Intolerable pain with an ear infection?!

Question: I started with an ear infection yesterday morning and went to the doctor for some antibiotics. I caught it early and was also given pain meds, but the pain is getting worse and pretty intolerable. The pain meds just don't seem to help and I can't get comfortable enough to keep dry heat on it. Any home remedies or suggestions from anyone in the medical profession or any parents? I'd appreciate all suggestions. I'm 27 and otherwise healthy.

Go to the emergency room now. If the pain is that bad, it might be because of pressure, which could potentially damage your eardrum. They might do what is typical in such cases, which is to make a hole to let pressure out. Very simple procedure, and immediate relief, no permanent damage.

Try some Advil or Asprin.

I think you should seriously consider going to the ER. If you had a decongestant--such as Sudafed--it might help to unclog the Eustactian tube to allow it to drain and relieve some of the pressure--but that might take a while for it to work. Good luck

I definatly dont think this is an emergency room situation.. I would run to wal-greens or any drug store and get an over the counter medication call debrox. It will help with the pain and also dissolve anything that is in your ear.....
