Head Injury help!?!

Question: My sister bumped her head on the corner of a table ( well... cloth drawer to be exact). Its alittle above her left ear. I checked, and saw there was a cut. Its not big enough to hav to get it sutured. I put ice on it, but theres still a bump

She is mentally disabled, but shes acting normal as she always is. So far, she doesnt walk as if she is dizzy. She looks sleepy, but it is 9:00PM and it was a school day. But, she does act wild when she sees wrestling. So.... sound normal? or put more ice...

Did she get knocked out when she hit her head? If yes then it is best that she get checked out. Otherwise watch her for vomiting and.or any any changes in how she normally acts. If this does start occuring she needs to go to the emergency department. Otherwise she should be completely fine.

By the way the whole thing about "Don't let her sleep" is completely false!! If she wants to sleep let her sleep.

check her pupils, do they react to light? (try using a small flashlight. hold it below her eye, look at the pupils, and then shine it in one eye. does the pupil get smaller? it should. then try the other eye.) if they dont, you might want to consider the er, but do not let her go to sleep, and do get to a doctor, as it could be a sign of head trauma. if they are reacting to light, it is not likely her head has been damaged, but, id still get it checked out.

continue to apply some ice packs on the affected area until the bump and the bleeding have subsided. for head injury, we always have to watch out for vomitting, severe headache and fever. if that is the case, we should bring the patient to the hospital as soon as we can.

Not a doctor but have had some children who have had head injuries and for the most part I think your sister is probably OK, but if you are concerned and she is exhibiting some signs that are not normal I would strongly suggest you go to the Emergency room of the hospital..

She may have a concussion and that can be very serious.

I do not know how hard she struck her head so I guess I will go for the worst case scenario because you do not want to be unsure about her injury.

Hope this helps.

keep an eye on her,if she falls asleep wake her up,"dont let her sleep" this is dangerous if she starts to throw up thats a bad sign, rush her over to the er asap! any head injury is concidered serious, have it checked out to be on the safe side.
