What are the white moons in your finger nails?!


Question: i remember a long time somebody told me that the white moons at the begginning of your fingernails (where the nail comes out) tells you if you have enough calcium or not. is this true or is it something else?? just curious

The white part at the tip of the nail is white because there is no blood to be seen under that part of the nail. It is called lunula after a half-moon shape.

The white part is where the nail extends past your skin. If you're white you'll notice that the nail part attached to your finger skin is pink. This is from the blood underneath your skin. But the white part, having no blood to back it up, simple looks white.
