It really depends on the location and severity of the injury. I can tell you that it takes up to a year for a fracture to truly heal, but you would have the cast off long before that.
It depends on the injury. Your doctor should be able to give you an idea as to how long the cast will be on for. Also, it is possible that after the cast comes off a walking boot may need to be used until you completely heal.
