Why do doctors always say "it won't hurt?"?!

Question: Going for outpatient surgery, doctor will not knock me out...so I had to beg for a tanquillizer....What is it with these doctors, they don't believe we feel pain?

Because it won't hurt THEM ! I would like to see a dr. having surgery they are the biggest babies.
Especially the men. Wished they would invent a ball-o-gram so they would know how a mammogram feels.

well sometimes, there really is no pain. but sometimes there are thoes doctors who will want to confort you. when i ask my doctor seriously if something will hurt, she usually tells me. hope this helps!

i think they just don't wanna scare you

because doctor is a only man who enjoys poor health

so that you wont run away screaming. if a doctor would say 'this is gonna hurt like ****' wat would you do?

think about it ;P

Actually...The docs try to becalm the patients, and they said "it won't hurt" because the patients think that it "won't hurt" for real.

I found interesting information about your answer here.http://healthlifeforyou.blogspot.com/200...

Hey, give the Doctor a break!!! Believe it or not, most of them do know what they are doing! I 'm a Nurse myself and I understand your concerns, but no Doctor is going to avoid prescribing sedation if they know for a fact the procedure is gonna cause the patient pain.....if there is little need for it they won't give it unnecessarily .....and any kind of anaesthaesia be it local or general has risks and side effects and they try not to use them unless they need to.At the end of the day you have the right to ask for something if your fear is experiencing pain... ...I also think your comment about Doctors not believing "we feel pain" is a bit off.....would you rather they sat there and said "THIS IS REALLY, REALLY GONNA HURT YOU!!!!!!" It is about being rational and balanced and not scaring the **** off the patient! Of course they believe you feel pain , but the fact you are having it done as an outpatient should indicate something - that it is not a major procedure and HOPEFULLY (depending on your pain threshold) the effects should be minimal......Good luck.

I never believe them anyway...haha

If I ask my doctor that, his answer in the past has been "There will be some discomfort, but we will give you pain medicine for that...you will be fine".
