Ankle sprained, can i return to basketball ?!


Question: i sprained my ankle late wednesday afternoon, rested and iced it thursday and the same friday, Today i seem okay, i can jog, jump lightly , and move without pain. However, it just hurts a tiny bit when i jump REALLY high. do you think its okay for me to play in a basketball game tomorrow morning?

Yes, I think you would be able to play, but not for too long. Maybe a quarter, then rest out, & then another quarter & rest. You do not need to put too much pressure on your ankle because you can mess it up more, but you do need to exercise and stretch it. In general you should stretch your legs more, you're less prone to injury as long as you know what you're doing.

Make sure you keep icing it everyday, sprains do take time to heal, but as long as you wrap it correctly it should be fine to play on.

It may have to be amputated just below the knee to prevent future sprains. They can fit you with a spring loaded prosthesis so you may jump higher. LOL
