How can I get my dr to prescribe message therapy?!

Question: My back is so sore, every morning. I'm sure it's stress. I have a 14 month old and a 3 month old. So, needless to say, It's pretty crazy at my house!
I think it would really help. Should I just ask her? I don't know why, but I'm a little embarrassed to just ask.
Any suggestions?

Yes, you should just ask. Be direct, and ask if he thinks massage would benefit your particular condition and how.

If you are going to attempt to use your insurnace to pay for massage (not recommended due to the headache involved) be sure the prescription states:
1. Massage Therapy (not PT)
2. (Frequency) Number of times per week you need massage
3. (Duration) total number of weeks you need therapy
4. The words "Medically Necessary" written somewhere on the prescription--else it won't be reimbursable.
5. The daignosis (in form of an ICD-9 code is best)

Question
Do you exercise? If no, you may have weak back muscles (erector spinalis)

A majority of back injuries are a result of a seditary lifestyle, I was a victim of lower back pain, until incorporated an exercise program that targets muscles of my back and now am living pain free.

Yes you should ask, the Doctors work for you...remember that.

Thats what I meant, just soreness can be a result of lack of developed back muscles. People tend to neglect them and focus mainly on muscles they can see (ie Abs, Chest, etc) {I am an example of that thinking}

If you incorporate daily stretches, it will help relieve pain in the long run. Everybody should treat their body like a long term investment, by investing in good health today...you'll be happy down the road.

Definitely ask your doctor. I did the same thing and my doctor gave me a prescription for one year of the massages and treatments to relieve stress. I had to go to the hospital and have it done but that was fine with me. Talk to your doctor because most of them are very understanding.

Usually doctors don't prescribe massage therapy. This is more of an elective thing to do. And you would be better off just calling an establishment like a health spa. Those places usually have good massage therapist. Plus your insurance would not cover this.

Did you have an epidural with the last baby? If so, that could be the cause of your back pain...I had it for 11 months after mine was born...really close to where the stick site was for the epidural...if thats the case massage thereapy is not going to do crap for you...you need to find a non addictive pain reliever that will help for the time being...

Rarely do doctors perscribe this and even more rarely do insurance companies pay for this.

My dad had to fight tooth and nail for physical therapy and he has degenerative disk disorder!!!!!!

Ask and you shall recieve
