How Does SAD Affect People...?!

Question: Or Seasonal Affective Disorder to give it it's proper title. A lot of people seem to suffer from this. What is it? And is there any treatment? If you have been affected by it, would you like to tell us a bit about it? Many thanks.

It affects me in that I find it very difficult to become motivated to do almost anything! Some mornings I find it hard to even get out of bed, I sometimes think if it wasn't for my dog I wouldn't bother. I find it hard to go out shopping, to keep appointments, anything that involves leaving the house. It is a condition caused by lack of natural sunlight, some deficiency in the body but I can't remember what! (Senile dementia). The most effective treatment is the use of a special lamp which simulates sunlight . A friend of mine also suffers from this condition and she had to use hers more than usual during last summer because we had more rain than sun here in Britain. A lot of doctors prescribe anti-depressants, but I wont take them. Can't afford one of the lamps either so I'm stuck, really have to force myself try and keep going.

The dark - lack of vit D maybe..

Light, excise, healthy type living and not Nordic genetics Lol

It is type of depression experienced when the seasons change. Namely to winter - people become depressed by the shorter, colder days and the lack of sunlight.
The medical world claims that uv exposure helps although i disagree with using that as a treatment.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a winter ailment, where people suffer from not getting enough vitamin D (from the sun). Symptoms include depression, lack of concentration, and tiredness. The best treatment is a special solar lamp that sufferers have to sit in front of for a set time every day, depending on the severity. They are also trying out colour therapy, but I'm not sure if they have anything conclusive yet.
I think we all suffer to an extent - in England - the weather's dreary and grey, and then the night comes in so quickly. We should all get more holidays in the winter months, so we can escape!

LoL first off this sounds a bit suspicious for being a homework question..lol
But to answer your question it is depression caused by the person not being exposed to enough sunlight. It occurs in the winter because the days are much shorter. It can be treated with antidepressants. It is also treated with special lights that the person sits under every day. In Alaska since there days can be VERY short, these type lights are everywhere. This is also believed to be why Alaska has the highest rate of suicide than any other US state.
Hope that helps answer your homework lol ;-)

SAD is a farce, like many psychologically and psychiatrically labeled disorders. Demonology is the truth and the demons need to be 'excorcised'.
