The burning and itching is actually a good sign. It means the nerves are regenerating. You may never get all of the feeling back around the scar because major nerves are severed during the surgery, but the burning and itching are good signs. It takes up to one year for the regeneration to be complete. After that time, if you still don't have feeling or have numbness in certain areas, you probably will never get the feeling back, unless you have a scar or nerve revision surgery.

Itching and burning, provided there is no other cause, is a sure sign that the nerves are starting to regenerate. It can take a long time to get them all back, and sometimes some never fully regenerate. Relax, the itching and burning are a good sign.
My husband cut his arm years ago, and he still has a small spot that has no feeling. It's normal.
