Ear aches, jaw hurts but I can't get to the Dr's. What else can I do?!

Question: I have been up all night with pain in my right ear. It hurts to open my mouth too. I phoned the Dr's this morning, but they have no appointments left. I've to phone after 2pm to see if anyone has cancelled. The surgery is shut tomorrow as they are having new computers fitted, so she said unless I'm dying, it will need to wait until Wednesday. I'm not sure I can stand another 2 nights like last night..... anyone any ideas on what else I can do? Thanks.

wait til after surgery hours and ring em doc, go to the pharmacy and ask them, you may have an ear infection, if you tel lthe doctors its an emergency they may be able to fit you in

go to hospital

I would just take some pain killers and rest as much as you can.......
Also i wouldnt eat much or eat chewing gum as this wont help your jaw...............

Ask the Pharmacist?

If you are feeling really lousy go to A & E. dont suffer

Visit the hospital, if that's the only thing left, and get some strong painkillers, to ease things a bit.

Put a few drops of WARM olive oil in you ear and lie down until its all gone down. I sure this'll work !!!!!!!
Have tried it many times........................

It sounds like you have a head cold (a.k.a. sinus infection, sinusitis). You need antibiotics... but there are some things you can do. I just got over this and I found that advil will help to relieve pressure and soreness, and you can get to sleep. You should sleep sitting up, if the ear infection (or just the pressure on your inner ear) advances your ear drum will split when you sleep on your side, or un-inclined. You will then have the rather unpleasant experience of waking up in some blood... not to mention the indescribable pain.
Good luck, and go to the ER!!!! That will get you your antibiotics faster...

It kind of sounds like its your tooth? Take some pain killers or clove oil and rest, hopefully you will get seen to soon!

are you sure you don't need to go to the dentist? alot of people, including myself experience these symptoms with wisdom teeth. it's sometimes described as "ill-defined" pain, because although it's hurting your jaw and ear, you can't quite decide where the pain actually is.

if this is the case it important that you seek dental advice soon because you may have an infection. make sure you take some painkillers to ease the pain and if your gums hurt go to the pharmasist and ask for anbesol - it's a gel like bonjella (it also comes in liquid form too) but instead of soothing the pain, it will actually numb it for you as it contains an anesthetic.

Call the emergency Doctor. They might have an extra hours Doctors surgery at your Hospital. Also you can call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for nurse advice and health information. The helpline is open 24 hours.

It could be sinus related, you could try sudaffed, it takes out the stufffiness of a cold but also works to take out pressure form your sinuses.
To be honest though, I'd just go to bed your body is fighting whatever is wrong and will more than likely right itself in a day or so. The most a doctor will prescribe you is paracetamol if the pain persists for more than a week then I'd expect a blood test, but realistically if you went to the doctor you'd probably be wasting his/her time as it's something the body can probably fix itself.

Get well soon!

Put up with it till it goes.not worth bothering doctor>

grimmo, sounds like sinus/ear infection, I get this every time I get a cold and there are no simple answers, but i'd say1)take paras,2) try a good nosespray like vicks sinex or otrivine3)you will need antibiotics if this has gone on for a day or two4)sleep upright at all costs5)drink loads of water to keep this mobile and not thick6)tell your doctor hes a pratt.
Good luck
Martin
