Gross question, but have you ever had a sinus infection so bad your snot was blo!

Question: I thought I had a sinus infection, so I went to the health clinic Friday, and they said I had strep and put me on amoxicillin. I started getting bloody mucus Friday night, but DH said it is just b/c of the infection. I went back to the clinic on Sunday anyway, and they gave me a different anitbiotic, and a prescription decongestant. I am looking for a "real" doctor, because they don't tell you anything at the health clinic, but in the meantime I am asking you.

Have you ever experienced anything like this? How long did it last? Thanks for your help!

It's not uncommon to have blood in your snot when you have a sinus infection. Your sinus membranes are inflamed from the infection, which in turn causes the blood. It is no different when you blow your knows in the morning. Sometimes there is blood, others times just snot. You have nothing to worry about as far as the blood is concerned, but a sinus infection is nothing to mess around with. It can infect your brain if it gets bad enough. You are on an antibiotic so continue that therapy until you are able to see a "real doctor". If you haven't found a family doctor after you are finished with your antibiotic, go back to the clinic to make sure your infection has cleared up. This is very important. Sometimes infections take more than one dose of therapy to clear up. Good luck and God Bless

I've never had a sinus infection get to the point that it was bloody. I don't mean to be alarmist, but any time you see blood coming out of your body (other than having it drawn or donating on purpose, of course) there's reason for worry. It sounds like a pretty serious infection and you should be under good medical care. I don't know where you are from or what the health system is like, but you should see a doctor and figure out what antibiotic you should be on, then take the full course of it. Not taking all the prescription of any antibiotic can lead to the development of "superbugs" with multiple antibiotic resistance, which no one wants! Once you are on the proper treatment (which you may be now) I would imagine it would probably take a few days to clear up, at least enough that you stop seeing blood.

Also anything else you can do to promote sinus health or general immune function will help--hot peppermint tea is one of my favorites. :-)

Yes. It's only a tinge though, maybe 4-5mm of red stringy stuff in my snot when I blow my nose.
I don't think it's anything alarming though.
