They are right. It would make it a lot worse especially if you chipped the bone and you can't really fix some things easily. I would do exactly what they say. Ice for 15-20 min. at a time for the first 48 hrs. then you can put heat on it after the ice to soothe it. Soaking in Epsom salts will help too. Mostly take care not to abuse it and stay off it as much as possible. Raise above your heart when lying around and rest as much as you can. A simple sprain can take up to 6 months to heal and sometimes cause trouble forever so, this isn't a bump, it is a bad bruise and that will take time. Follow Dr. orders. Take whatever you can take for pain and inflammation and no running for a while LOL. Good Luck. Prayers are coming your way. Miss Mary

Yes! And I would actually get a second opinion. I had this same exact thing. I went down a make-shift waterslide and whacked the top of my foot on a plastic piece that was sticking out. It was hugely swollen and when they x-rayed it, they said it was a deep contusion (bruise). But when it still hurt a few days later, I had it re-evaluated and they found two breaks in the little bones of the foot (on top). So, I really would get that checked out in a couple days if it does not change. And be really careful, those bones are not too strong and now you have weakened the area around them.

Deeply "bruised" bone simply means that it obtained a strong trauma. I think that your situation's not that critical yet. Just take care of your foot and make sure that you don't get it injured. Otherwise, osteoclasts might start "freaking out" and destroy the osteocytes (bone cells) in the affected area, which is obviously not something you would want.

I am sorry that you hurt your foot. I work for a Podiatrist (foot/ankle doctor) and I recommend that you go and see one. It is possible that you could have fractured your foot instead of bruising it. But the latter is possible. Have you had an xray done to rule out a fracture? If so, I would have one again because fractures don't always show up on film.

I fractured my left foot 4weeks ago tomorrow. When I went to work the next day I took an xray of my foot and I couldn't see the fracture on the film but the doctor had found it. It was a hairline fracture. I knew it was fractured. I felt it crack. I had fallen and that is how I fractured my foot. When I took xrays at week 2 even the doctor couldn't see it, but he felt my foot and said he could feel it. I still can feel it even though it feels so much better. I hope this helps Good Luck.
