Whats the reason...?!

Question: Why whenever I drink milk, or eat ice cream, do I get really bad gas?

Answers: Why whenever I drink milk, or eat ice cream, do I get really bad gas?

It sounds like lactose intolerance or maybe an intolerance to the fat in dairy.

I am lactose intolerance myself. I can eat cheese and yoghurts as well. Milk, ice cream and normal cream all affect me.

Lactose is a natural sugar. Most people have the enzyme lactase in there stomach/intestines to break the sugar down into simpler sugars that are more easily digested. It often causes bad gas and also diarrhea. This is because the lactose ferments in your stomach/intestines (same as when beer and bread ferments and causes a build up of gas).

It would be a good idea to talk to a doctor and get a proper diagnosis but ill bet its what it is. I struggled for years before i found out what it was.

If it is - heres some tips

You can buy lactose free milk these days. I buy the long life milk and it comes in quite a few forms. U can even get flavoured milk, cream etc.

You can buy lactase supplements to replace the enzyme in your body but i think its easier to use different milks etc first.

When yoghurt is made the good bacteria uses the lactose in the milk to live so the bacteria gets rid of the lactase making it good for u to eat. You can buy lactose free yoghurt but u pay more for it and the lactose content is probably about the same as the normal yoghurt. Oh and btw this is also true for cheese I find. With me it seems the more processed the milk is (in what ever form it may be) the easier i can digest it and dont have problems.

How ever u deal with it - make sure you still get enough calcium - before i learnt to deal with my intolerance i went without calcium for a long time - make sure you replace diary calcium with something else - even if it does have to be supplements

**UPDATE** Im going to ask a really yukky question... do you get diarrhea... and if so does it kind of look 'frothy'? Its another sign that food is fermenting in you digestive track... and a good indication of lactose intolerance. those 2 question will probably be some of the first ones a doctor will ask

Basically you are lactose intolerant. There was a time when I ate NO dairy product for a year. Afterwards, even the little bit of milk in coffee was enough to give me the runs. If I had ice cream - forget about it.

How I have ice cream from time to time and I'm OK with that much. It is well known that Blacks and Asians are mostly Lactos intolerant. But many whites are also Lactos intolerant.

Good Luck.

i guess u must be allergic to cream.

you could just gas over some food but if oyu are really con go see that doc about it
