Start working out lightly on an exercise ball. Don't do anything that strains your back at all, not while it's hurting. Take it easy but even just sitting on the ball strengthens your core muscles.

I've had lower back pain off an on for years but it had never been terribly serious. In Feb 06 it started hurting a lot almost all time. When I was sitting or laying down it was ok but standing, walking was very painful. As the months past it got worse and worse. I went to the doctor several times, I started swimming regularly cause he said that would help.

I did my own research and found that exercise balls are reported to be good for a bad back. I ordered a video that has exercises for back rehab and a ball. By this time it was Aug 06 and my back was killing me. It was hurting even at night when I was trying to sleep.

I got the back rehab video and ball and used it that same night. 20 min on that ball doing the simple exercises on the video and I had absolutely no more pain the next day! It was my own personal miracle. Now I do a routine with the ball three times a week for 50 min. I don't have any back pain.

try icy hot for backs.

Get a prescription for some Vicodin and stop the weight training for a short while. If the pain persists then get an MRI to see if you have any herniated discs.
