Paramedics- Motivate me!?!

Question: Here I am again. The guy that wants to be a fireman/paramedic.
I have been thinking of just going to be a fireman sense I want that more. But I do want to be a Paramedic as well, I am just afraid I wont be able to fight fires.

So all paramedics out there give me a real motivational speech to be a Paramedic. As motivational as you can get.

I don't feel like writing you up a big speech, but you should know that getting into firefighting is extremely competitive and earning your paramedic certification will make you far more desirable to a fire department.

If you're a paramedic and a firefighter, you WILL go on fire calls. I don't see why you think you won't. They don't keep the firefighter/paramedics back while guys who are just firefighters fight the blaze. They need all the help they can get and as a firefighter you'll have the right training. There's really no question about it, you will be fighting fires just as much as anyone else.

You should also realize, however, that in many places the fire department works many more medical calls than it does fire calls. For example, a fire dept. lieutenant told me that they do about 85% medical and 15% fire. Just a heads up.

If you're really passionate about being a firefighter and want to have a stronger job stability and room to grow, I highly suggest that you become a paramedic.

I know several firefighter/paramedics and they all love their job to bits. It can definitely be an excellent career for the right person. They enjoy lots of respect, excitement and camraderie.

Good luck!

go do fireman training first and then paramedic training. i know a few people who went that way... they still fight fires and participate in rescues..

You will open up more opportunities if you have both certs under your belt. You will be able to do more than just basic life support skills. You have strength you don't even know you have. You WILL be able to put out the fires, and when you find that person who is injured and needs your help, you will not feel limited, when you know you have the education and skills to help them in every way possible. Since you will be a firefighter, you will be first on scene, first to the patient, and first to administer what needs administering. Time is crucial, and of the up most importance. That "Golden Hour" is over before you know it!
If your fire fighting career doesn't work out, you can just work as a paramedic. You will also have the paramedic education as a stepping stone into P.A. or Nursing school, or even more. Don't limit yourself and your future, if you have to opportunity now, then take advantage of it. You will thank yourself one day for all the hard work and frustration you are about to go through.

Here is your motivation.....

Remember the mortality rate of firemen is much higher than that of paramedics.
