Question: How long do you think it will take for his hip to heal? Does this mean he can't walk ever again? BTW he's 14.

it takes 6-8 weeks to heal a bone. unless he has an under laying health problem. and yes he should be able to walk. i see 80+ yo people fall break a hip, go to surgery for a "pinning" ( real name if interested is open reduction and internal fixation or ORIF) and they get up with PT the next day. it should be fine

he should be abet to walk again. it will take about 6 weeks or so. he is young so he should be able to bounce back and be a young teenager again. tell him to get better soon.
