yes if is green thats old dont wait until he is crying . sounds like infection
I've never heard of green puss coming out of an ear before, but I'm guessing it's an ear infection. But to make sure, please go to the doctor, it's the best you can do seeing that you may not have an idea of what it is. Well good luck to you and your son.

He coould have put something in his ear and it's infected now..such as a tissue, a piece of cotton, a piece of paper etc.

It may not be bothering him because his eardrum has already ruptured from the pressure the puss was causing and now is leaking out. You should definitely see a doctor soon!
His eardrum has ruptured. Not all children cry when they have earaches. They might just seem lethargic. He needs antibiotics. Take him to the doctor. Hopefully, it will heal on its own and you won't need to have him undergo surgery later. I'm not kidding.
