popping and your thumb feeling like it is out of the socket is not a sympton--carpal tunnel would not affect the thumb like that----pain worse at night is logical-all pain is usually worse then, but as the other person said numbness and tingling and dropping things are the signs -also not being sensitive to heat -like hot water etc--my co worker had this and we could always tell when she filled the sink with water becaus it was way to hot for us but it didn't even phase her--shehad her surgery and recoverd in about 6 weeks

Pain and popping of the wrist are not really "classic" symptoms of carpal tunnel...numbness and tingling of the first 3 fingers, dropping things, grip getting weaker along with night symptoms are your typical carpal tunnel symptoms.
