Finger?! help..?!

Question: i was lifting porcelain sinks at school (dont ask i was helping my principal w/ like 10 other kids) and as i was throwing it into the dumpster it hit the tope joint of my index finger. it is really swollen a day later and the nail is blue/purple and it is really bruised and i can only bend the top joint a little and it hurts when anything touches it a little. the little crescent thing at the bottom of the nail is bright white. do u think i sprained it..i dont think i broke it. i heard my nail will fall of..is that true..it hurts to straighten it or bend it..just the top joint..
Thanks!
ps. i think im gonna tape it for support to my third finger :-]

well your already off to a good start! since you said you can bend the top join a little it's still working and if it is broken there isnt much even a doctor could do for you if im thinking of the location you make it sound like. Your nail will probably fall off but it's no biggie...make sure you keep it in a zip loc bag so you can show your friends though :) just tape your entire finger to a popsicle stick to keep it straight so you dont have to bend it or stress it. You could also tape to your other finger for support, but the popsicle stick is probably what is going to be the most comfortable and allow for the quickest healing time.

Go to your school nurse....

You probably just bruised it, which is really quite pain-full, if the bruising gets to much and swells alot your nail might come off due to damage and circulation, but it is nothing to worry to much about and it will grow back as good as new, even if it is broken, there is nothing the doctors would do, your best bet is to bandage the sore and a good finger together, but dont do this to tight until the swelling has stopped
It is amazing how much we use our fingers and you dont notice till you hurt one!
A ice pack might help numb the pain, or arnica cream will help the bruising, if it throbs take a paracetamol
