I am assuming that the MRI and the MRA are of the brain. Each procedure will take between 30-45 minutes. Scanning times will vary, depending on the scanning protocol and machine at each facility. For a more accurate time frame, you should call the facility where you are scheduled and ask how long those exams take.

A brain MRI shows brain tissue, ventricles, sinuses etc. A brain MRA will only show the Circle of Willis, which is the blood vessels in the brain. From the patient's point of view, there is no noticible difference between the two studies. We use the same machine and you are positioned in the same fashion. The machine's settings are just different.

Best wishes......

I went in for an MRI. Doc said that I needed 2 different things looked at. Technician said half an hour for each, so my session was an hour. I don't know what an MRA is.

MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging takes about 60-90 mins
What is MRI?
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is another way of producing precise images of the body's internal organs without the use of x-rays. The machine generates high-resolution images which appear as a slice of anatomy. MRI uses a large magnet, radio frequencies, and a computer to produce its images. The computer processes these signals to produce highly detailed images of your anatomy. MRI is also capable of producing those images in an infinite number of projections throughout the body. These images are useful in the early discovery and treatment of many conditions and diseases

MRA- Magnetic Resonance Angiography.
What is MRA?
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is a non-invasive technique on the MRI scanner to image blood vessels of any body part, most commonly those in the head and neck. MRA is an alternative to conventional angiography which requires the insertion of needles and catheters into the blood vessels with the use of x-ray.
