Will losing weight really help a persons back pain?!

Question: If I'm 5'2.5" and 200 lbs and have a really sore back I figure a good 30 to 40 lbs ought to do it. Your thoughts?

It will likely help you. back Strengthening exercise can help too, only be careful not to injure yourself. Ask a dr what you should and shouldn't do.

Yes, if the back pain is caused by the weight and not some other condition. My wife lost 95 pounds and has a lot less back pain.

probably--less to carry around.First be sure of what the problem is,Losing weight is good for the entire body.

yes losing weight will help. what else will probably help is after you lose that weight, tighten up your ab muscles. That will take some of the strain off your back if you ab muscles are strong. Picture someone with a big belly, think of all that weight straining the back. Now if that person were to lose that weight and tighten up their abs, then the stomach would no longer be straining the back. It certainly won't hurt to try. Good luck!!

absolutely. less stress on the lumbar spine. keeping it off is tricky but i lost 65lbs along with PT and ESI (injections) and felt better. unfortunately i have put most of thw weight back on and some pain has returned. walk a lot, that helps too. good luck

Probably so, but there are plenty of thin people with bad backs too.
If you start a serious exercise program such as pushups, situps and dips with your back against a chair, plus walking, that will help your back way more! (Plus you will lose weight automatically).
Do three sets of each exercise so many as you can do without straining. Every week you will be able to do more! Build up until it starts to work - then keep doing them forever!!!
