Knee Injury? Please, help me find out what's wrong.?!

Question: I've recently injured my knee. I was playing defense in basketball, and the girl who I was defending went to her right, my left, and as soon as I moved to put my weight on my left foot my knee just exploded in pain. It didn't extend too far back, it might have gone to the side a little, but as far as i can tell it just hurt like hell. I dragged myself off the court and then partially walked off to a bench. There's minor swelling on the inside, but the majority of the swelling is right below the patella, and any pressure put on it hurts. When i tried to walk on it, i could get my foot flat on the ground, but my knee will not straighten out. This has happened once before, and i can't remember how it did the last time. Please, I'm very athletic and I would want to know if I should go in and get it checked out, or give it some time. Before, it took 2 weeks to put full weight on it. The only reason i would think it would go out is possibly the fact that we were on a poor, rubberized floor.

It sounds like it could be the meniscus if you are unable to straighten your leg and put pressure on it, but acute knee problems can be a little tricky to diagnose. You should go see an Orthopedic, they may want to take a MRI. Sometimes there can be a little flap that comes off of your meniscus and causes this same problem, sometimes a certain movement will cause that flap to lay down and you will be fine for a while until that flap comes up again. Hope this helps

hey this sounds kinda serious....you should probably go to the orthopedic as soon as possible. however, it could also be osgood shalatters disease which i have had. im sure since you are an athlete that you have heard of it. but i think thats its more serious than that! go see a doc!

maybe you popped it out of place. i wouldnt really rely on yahoo answers to let you know. go ask your school trainer, coach, or go to the doctors

You need to go to the doctor to get X-rays and an MRI. You could have torn a ligament.

Yes, definitely go in and have it checked, there are a few things that it could be, but he would be the one who knows===
