Argh! Please! Someone, do you know why my finger did this?!

Question: A few minutes ago while I was typing in the answer to a very important question I heard a strange popping noise come from the knuckle of my third finger on my left hand. I am really worried. What was that sound? It almost sounded like a crack, like my knuckle somehow cracked!! Of course I have already taped my fingers together and I took some aspirin. I am thinking of putting my arm in a sling, maybe elevate it?? Should I call an ambulance? I don't want to over-react but this is so worrisome. I am scared! It doesn't hurt at all, just that strange noise. Please advise me!!

  • if you don't feel any pain, i'm sure nothing bad could have happened.... might have just poped it and let the natural gas out of your joint

if it doesnt look bad, or hurt then i wouldnt be worried.

lol dont worry its just a simple finger crack it happens to all of us infact i can do about 10 of them at once =)

actually i've heard that its one of the first signs of cancer

LOL. That's happened to me a ton(I have long fingers) especially when I'm playing my piano. It's nothing. And if something was wrong it would hurt. I don't know what causes the sound but trust me, you're fine. I've popped my fingers a lot and got x-rays and they were fine.

It's leprosy. You have 48 hours to live. It was nice knowing you!

Yes by all means call an ambulance, go to the emergency room, this could be the time to amputate,!!!!!!!

Probably A dad cramp or pinched nerve if it continues to hurt or bother u tomorrow ask someone doctor school nurse ext. You might try pulling on it might be dislocated.

You just popped your finger and thats not a big deal cuz I do it all the time. No sling or tape u don't need that cause then your becoming a hypochondriac. I mean it doesn't hurt, you can't see your bone or blood, and your finger ain't hanging or not responding to your commands of your hand. So really its just a crack that every1 has been saying they do and all it does is relieves pressure from ur joints. No need for drastic measures.

Uhh, your knuckle just cracked? Hasn't that ever happened to you b4? It happens to everyone. Just calm down .

Your joints can make a variety of sounds: popping, cracking, grinding, and snapping. The joints that "crack" are the knuckles, knees, ankles, back, and neck. There are different reasons why these joints "sound off".

Escaping gases: Scientists explain that synovial fluid present in your joints acts as a lubricant. The fluid contains the gases oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. When you pop or crack a joint, you stretch the joint capsule. Gas is rapidly released, which forms bubbles. In order to crack the same knuckle again, you have to wait until the gases return to the synovial fluid.
Movement of joints, tendons and ligaments: When a joint moves, the tendon
