Cracking Jaw?!

Question: A couple of weeks ago I was eating a bread roll when my jaw suddenly made a squishy sort of gristly noise. Now every time I chew my jaw makes a load cracking sound on the left of my face, its not painful though.
Will it get better over time?

Hi - I have this too - it has periods of almost disappearing and others of being really annoying - sometimes its hard to get my jaw back into position. I asked the dentist about it on monday and she said if it causes pain then they investigate but if not then they don't. She said that eating lots of tough food aggravates it and also sleeping at a funny angle on your face, pushing your jaw out does as well - so perhaps try sleeping differently? Let me know if you find a solution!

That happens to me. I have just left it, it's been a few years and it hasn't really bothered me. If it bothers you, get it checked out.

maybe not. my bf had this... he went to a surgeon and he gave him exercises and no chewy or hard food for 3 months... (meaning NO STEAK!! lol he nearly died wen he said that to him) Its nothing to do with the TMJ muscle in your jaw, apparenlty his was too loose.. meaning his jaw went back further than it should.. or something like that. Try goin to a doc before it gets too bad that u need surgery... (lucky my bf didnt get that far!)

See your GP. My sister had this and it became so painful she could hardly speak. She had gold injected into the joint and has not had any problems since.

I've had this problem for as long as i can remember, but this year it locked and i couldn't open my mouth, so i went to my dentist and he referred me to the maxillo-facial unit, and i'm having a plate fitted in January.

This sounds like a problem with your temperomandibular joint (TMJ), which connects your lower jaw to your skull. Problems with the TMJ can cause clicking (sometimes the jaw can lock), headache and facial pain. It can be caused by an injury to the jaw, or sometimes just chronic clenching of the jaw. In many patients it resolves by itself. However, if not, or it becomes painful, your GP or dentist may be able to help.

woah, i thought it was just me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
