What can I do to keep my feet from hurting at work?!

Question: I work retail, and after two or three hours of my shift, I'm ready to quit. When I work a few days in a row, my feet will start hurting only 30 minutes into my shift. I know many of my shoes aren't proper, but even my Clarks aren't the "godsend" everyone says they are. I am heavy, but I know lots of overweight people who have no problem with their feet at all. Why do I have such a problem with my feet? Should I see a pediatrist?

And what shoes/solutions would you suggest? We cannot wear sneakers, so those are out of the question.

Thanks!

I suggest you consult an Orthopedic doctor instead of a podiatrist since I suspect you might have a problem with the arch of your feet and if that is the case you are going to need x-rays and treatment that would be better given by an orthopedic doctor.

You need to find a nice loving man to rub your feet when you get home from a long day at work..

Try gel sole inserts. If you still have problems, I'd schedule an appointment with a podiatrist.

buy a shoe (or insole) that has a really big arch. your foot needs to be supported and you dont need to stand flat footed.

first of all it's podiatrist (doctor for feet). anyway, you said that you are overweight. it does make your feet more stressed because of the excess weight. not just your feet but also your legs. you can get varicose veins so you should use stockings for support. the only thing i can advise you is buy a really comfortable pair of shoes ad lose some weight!

Dr. Scholls makes a great shoe for people on their feet all day and they are very resonable. Available at many sporting good stores and WalMart

I liked Earth shoes when I had to stand all day...but keep in mind, good shoes cost money. $30 shoes aren't going to be nearly as comfy as good $100+ shoes. Go talk to Nordstrom--it may cost more but they will be able to advise you (and allow you to return them used if they don't serve your purpose).
