My Right Pinky Goes Numb When I Lay On My Tummy?!

Question: I'm constantly on my laptop surfing the net at night, and I don't like sitting at a desk. I lay on my stomach on my bed with my laptop in front of me.

It's really annoying, but after about 20 minutes, my right pinky and part of my ring finger go numb/falls asleep. I shake it out, and then 20 minutes later, it happens again.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I have my laptop on the work surface in the kitchen and then I can have a look at it while I'm doing the housework. If I stand with my hand on the mouse for a while my little finger starts tingling and then goes numb.
So whether your laid down or stood up you get the same problem, just one of the things we have to put up with if we want to play with our laptops, I think I'II suffer with a numb finger and carry on for a while longer, then it's more Christmas shopping and my finger can a rest.

It doesnt happen to me on the laptop but it happens on the phone! I cant hold the phone to my ear longer than 20 minutes :P we both have bad blood circulation :P

Yeh very normal - you are blocking a nerve in that position that's all.

Would I be correct that you prop yourself up on your elbows? In that position you are putting pressure on your ulnar nerve, which explains the tinglies in your pinky and part of your ring finger. (This can also be called "truck driver's elbow, from the habit of leaning on the armrest while driving for long periods.) If this goes on long enough and gets bad enough, it can lead to cubital tunnel syndrome, which can be prevented by changing your position.
