Is it okay to place vaseline on a healing surgical incision?!

Question: I recently had surgery and the wound is starting to heal. The problem is that when I cover the wound with a gauze pad (as instructed), it either catches on the stitches (painful) or gets clotted with blood and, when I remove it, it pulls off the scab that otherwise is protecting the healing incision. My question is that is it okay (no detrimental effects) to place a thin coat of vaseline on the gauze before applying it, or to use pre-made petroleum jelly-coated gauze? Or is this inadvisable and why? Thanks for anyone who can help!!!! :-)

it's ok to use the petrolatum gauze, just be sure to change it daily, or you increase your risk of infection.

i think you should ask your doctor not us.
