If you hurt it over the summer, then I doubt an x-ray will do much, but you do need to persist with your doctor. Ligament damage can take months to get over, and needs proper rest and physio. Cartilage damage can be bothersome for life, and often requires operations in later years. There is a lot of structures in the knee, so proper investigation needs to be done to get a correct diagnosis, you may need scans etc.

Sometimes doctors can be a little blinded, so if you find you can't get him/her to take you seriously, try another doc in your practice.

Has it been xrayed? Any breaks or fractures? How long ago was your last doc visit? If your in that much pain, go back and get some answers from him!

ice it as much as possible..i know it seems lik the easiest solution but it makes the swelling so much better..even wen it doesnt hurt..ICE ICE ICE!

Does it hurt more to walk up or down stairs? It sounds like what happened to me. It hurt sometimes more when I walked up or down stairs. I went to the doctor a few times they did x-rays, wrapped it, ect. But it kept hurting so I went again that time she gave me a corizone shot. That helped so much. If I were you I would go back to the Dr and ask about it. Good Luck.

It sounds to me like you have arthritis. Usually after an injury it will occur. Try hot/cold compresses, and see your doctor ask if he can prescribe celibrex or another type of anti inflammatory med. If you are not in a position to see a doc, go to the nearest pharmacy and buy you some naproxen, it is an anti inflammatory acetaminophen used to treat bones and joints. and its inexspensive too. Good luck.

It it is soft tissue damage it could take MONTHS for it to heal.
