Why do other people keep on cigarette smoking?!

Question: Addiction? I have recently quit, mainly because my very close friend got lung cancer. It can happen to anyone, even the very young. But everyone knows that. You always think it wont happen to you. You always hear the scare stories, but put them to the back of your mind.
I never thought I would quit. But for me, as for alot of people it took the shock of a lifetime to convince me it was necessary. However, despite this very horrible reality, I have still found it so hard. I want a cigarette now, just writing this! If you are properly addicted it takes such alot of will power, and if you dont yet have the will and mindset to quit, it can seem like an impossible task.
Go to any lung ward, you will find patients outside, chainsmoking fearfully. I think this is one of the best anti-smoking adverts around. The real horror does indeed lie not in the fact that it kills you, but in the fact that it is so addictive that you will let it kill you.
Year after year I got bronchitis, obvious proof of the damage I was doing. But I still didn't quit. In fact I was annoyed at the illness for making it impossible for me to smoke, more then I was annoyed at the cigarettes for making me ill!
Something has to happen. It has to be the right time. And you have to have the right mindset. And the fact remains that some people just wont.
