Get to the emergency room immediately if you can't deal with the pain. they can check to see if it severe and give you pain medicine and if it is extremely bad - which they can tell through blood work oftentimes - they can do further testing often as soon as possible like an X ray or an ultrasound. It can be life - threatening if the pain is severe enough it is rare - but the gall bladder can burst. If the pain becomes unbearable rush to your emergency room right away by whatever means - they'll see you right away - and give you a pain shot pretty quickly most likely and run tests, like blood work... Good luck...Oftentimes a visit to the emergency room and a shot of pain medicine like morphine or Demerol will be enough to get you over the edge if you're just having an attack. They'll only admit you if you're really severe - don't worry - I've had five or six atttacks in the past ten years and have yet to be admitted - it's only if it's really bad and very necessary - usually the pain shots get you over the attack and you can go home in three to six hours if everything's OK...

I suffer from gallstones i was diagnoised about 2 years ago... havent had an attack since but think am about to get 1 had really bad pains......When i had them i used to drink boiled water leave to cool a bit and hot water bottle. Really the only way my pain went was cause i went into hospital i couldnt walk so they give me morphine which really helped i would try the water first you dont want to be in hospital over christmas. I used to have mine for about 12 hours and it was really painful.

Have you been told you have them?
