Break, sprain, or nothing at all?!
Question: I'm in my high school's winter guard and was practicing, when I caught my sabre the wrong way and smacked my thumb. It got a tad swollen and the front knuckle part looks as if it juts out the tiniest bit, but i think that's more likely due to the swelling. I can move my thumb fine, and there is no visible bruising, but when I apply pressure it aches. It's been like this for three days, and only improved slightly. What could be wrong? My thought was that maybe the bone was bruised.

I did the same thing once, i was playing football outside, and it was really really cold. i caught the ball wrong and it hit my pinky finger. it only swelled a little, i could still move it easily, but when you squeezed it it kinda hurt. after three weeks of doing everything that i usually did, i went in to get it checked because it was still bothering me. turns out that it was fractured and i needed a splint.
if it still hurts you should get it checked out because if it is fractured then it could get worse.
hope you feel better!
If you can move the thumb without a problem and is as strong as your other thumb, then it is most likely a bruise. The more severe the bruise is, the longer it will take to heal. You can take Tylenol for the pain, but other than that only time will heal.
