Older Prescriptions?Please help me?!

Question: My doctor prescribed me Naproxen and Tylenol 3 for my migraines...He told me to take them when the pain gets to be too much to bear...I have had chronic migraines all my life, so i try very hard not to take medication for them unless I absolutely HAVE to...as such, these two prescriptions have gotten a little old. He gave them to me about a year ago and I have used maybe 10 pills out of each bottle (there was originally 30 pills).....my question is : are these two prescriptions now too old for me to be taking? do pills "go bad"? Would it be dangerous for me to use them now? Should I just go back and ask him for a new prescription?

Please help me, my head hurts so much....the local pharmacy is closed, or else I would call them :( I don't think I can wait....ouch :(

You're safe..the expiration Date is for making money and more than likely, if you stored them properly, you'll be just fine...safe zones on most meds out side of antibiotics(and most of them are ok unless it is a Rx mixture wth sterilized water) have an incredible extended life on them that we consumers are not to know about. Take your meds...AND FEEL BETTER...Happy Holidays to YOU

It would be okay to take them. It is seriously doubtful they would hurt you, and the truth is some drugs can be effectful up to 2 years after the expiration day. Sometimes the expiration date can be found on the prescription bottle. Hope you feel better soon.

Ibuprofen is not basically the same thing as Naproxen. They both are NSAIDs, but the drugs are different. One I can take, and the other I cannot.

They shouldn't be expired yet, but the date should be on the bottle.

Also, prescription strength Tylenol and Ibuprofen (which is basically the same thing as Naproxen- there's not a huge difference between Ibu. and Aleve... both are anti-inflammatories) just means each pill is a higher MG than the over the counter version.
For example, prescription Ibuprofen- each pill is 800MG as opposed to the over the counter being... 400MG, I believe.
You can just buy the OTC versions, and just take enough pills to match the dose of your prescription.

pills, don't go "bad" they might lose potency, but they wont hurt you.
