If you're quite tall, you will honestly look shorter if you stand up straight -- except when you're standing next to some of us really short folks, of course. You'll look shorter (honest) if you stand like a short person stands: straight. Taller folks tend to bend or lean, while shorter folk tend to stand up straight. We have to, we want to claim every inch we can. Look down if needs be when you talk to someone, but don't bend or lean down. It's really ok. Some of us are used to looking up at nearly everyone.

Cosmetic issues aside, one thing you'll need to do is stretch the muscle that goes diagonally down the front of your shoulders towards your sternum. Grab the top of a doorframe and twist away from it so your arm is behind you. Twist just far enough so it pulls a bit, not so far it truly hurts. Hold this while you slowly count to 30. Repeat on the other side. Do this two or three times a day. After a three or four weeks (good things are rarely instantaneous) you will begin to notice that it is much easier to stand up straight.

If habit keeps you slouching, get a friend to put a strip of duct tape across your shoulderblades. Stand up straight, have your friend tape you, and then go live your life. Whenever you start to slouch, you have a gentle tug on your skin to remind you not to do so.

Stretch your muscles in the front that get short and strong (pecs), and strengthen the muscles in your back that get lengthened and weak(rhomboids, mid/lower trapezius). The upper crossed syndrome is very common, especially with a seated job/computer use.

go see a Doc,,a physical therapest

I had/have the same problem, it's gotten a lot better..

get to the gym ... you want to pull your shoulder and back muscles back.

Romboid and rear delt exercises that are squeezing your back together as if there was a pencil there and you want to hold it in place... do some abs too and you will strengthen your core to support your new posture..

get a trainer if you can, proper form is key.

good luck..

see a chiropractor, take up yoga and swimming, see your doctor, get a massage, and do pushups.

Yoga will help a great deal. And stop slouching just because everyone else is shorter than you. Make them look up and hurt their necks!
