I gave up smoking now I can't sleep..?!

Question: yesterday morning i gave it up cold turkey after 15 years of smoking ruffly three packs a day. Funny thing is I have no drive to smoke, my husband still smokes and I can be around him while he is puffing and I have no desire to light one up, but I am having a hard time falling asleep now. Is this a common side effect to going cold turkey? I know being crankey is and sometimes people can get jittery but I haven't heard that is can mess with some ones sleeping habbits.

Congratulations on a healthy future! I gave up smoking a year and a half ago (although last christmas I had one - big mistake! I felt so horrible the next day, but it put me off for life)

I had trouble sleeping for a while, but it does get better.

Different things work for different people, I bought myself an oil burner and some lavander oil (make sure you dilute the oil with water in the burner, or it will burn), and put drops of lavander oil on my pillow and lavander hand cream on my hands before bed. Try that, and also don't stress about falling asleep quickly, just think of nice things and make sure you reward yourself with nice things for getting through a month of no smoking. You could also try valerian (you'll find it in health food shops), but I wouldn't stress about it - it will get better... if after a month you're still having trouble sleeping, see your GP.

I think the most important thing is that you don't stress about it too much.

I was lucky my partner doesn't smoke, so the temptation isn't really there. I am now so disgusted by smoking, I hate when people smoke around me as I can't stand the smell!

feel free to email me.
