My left rotator cuff/shoulder is hurting, why?!

Question: This year I had surgury on my right rotator cuff/shoulder. It was torn and I could not lift up my arm. Now my left shoulder is giving me trouble...Anyone had this happen to them? Does this mean I may have to go into surgery again?...I'm going to see my doctor after the holidays.

I have never had the same problem as you but I did have a bout with frozen shoulder. My suggestion would be go to the doctor and see what they say. They have much more knowledge and a ton of resources.

You may be over compensating by using the left side of your body since having surgery on the right. Over use can cause a great number of issues. I imagine this is coming from you having had surgery, on your right side. You have some scar tissue, atrophy and myofascial restrictions. On the right therefor over use on the left.

Which would lead me to suggest alternative medicine. A good massage may loosen up the soft tissue. If it is a soft tissue issue.

If you do decide for a massage ask the therapist to concentrate on the pectoralis major/minor and the subclavius muscles. Also the SITS muslces ( Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres major/minor Subscapularis). These are the muscles of the rotator cuff. They may have trigger-points in them and can be very painful. Not just referring pain to the shoulder but also down the arm.

With all that being said, still see your doctor first. With massage it may take a few sessions before you find relief. If that is the problem you may still come out cheaper with massages than having surgery again. Surgery should always be a last result.

Below I have given you a web site where you can do some research to find more answers.

Good Luck and I hope you feel better.

Also make sure you are stretching your pecs and upper back muscles. stretching has the amazing ability to relieve muscle tightness.

It could be any of a number of things, including the rotator cuff. Depending on the degree of injury and your state in life, a determination will be made. Mine responded to physical therapy, but I was in my upper 50's then, so nothing athletic was involved. If you are, for instance, in high school with a possibility of an athletic scholarship, get it done as well as they can do it.

I think, maybe you're not resting your shoulder enough hun..You have to give it time to heal..if thats not the case then..you'll have to see you doc...

follow up with the surgeon.
