Self Injury?!

Question: I have always hurt myself. In weird ways, car cigarette lighters, knifes, forks, glass, anything I could find really. It started when I was depressed, but now I just do it when I'm bored or just because I want to. I like the way it feels, and the way it makes me feel. Everyone has a problem with it. I don't want to stop because people tell me to. I don't want to stop at all.
I know it's harmful, but I just don't feel the need to stop.
I feel like I'm numb to the feeling because I've been so used to it being a daily rutine.
Is that weird? Should I be worried? Is something wrong with me?

If you are comfortable with your habbit and since it is not harming anyone (except yourself but this is of your own free will) then just go on as you see fit. Probably if I knew you myself I would try to discourage you from doing such but you are your own person , a big girl I am pretty sure you can make this decision for yourself ; if you are okay with it why should you stop? Unless this turns into an uber detrimentally harmful ( i dont think a few small burns , scrapes , scratches , cuts are so bad) to yourself I don't see any real reason to quit well unless you want to...It probably has become a sort of nail-biting habbit for you ( you probably do this to relieve tension whether you realize it or not). In the end it's your call.

Yes something is wrong with you. If you truly don't want to stop than why are you posting this? Do you think you could be in denial?

This is an issue and you really should talk to someone about it. Self-injury is a sign that something is wrong and you can get nasty infections from it. If you're in college, there are free counselors that you can talk to. If in high school, I'd talk to your parents or maybe a close family member. School counselors in high school are (in my experience) very quick to freak out and don't typically deal well with this kind of situation.

That being said, if you really don't want to tell anyone or don't want to stop, perhaps you can switch this obsession to something more socially-acceptable and safer. Do you like body piercings? In my opinion, piercings (aside from ears) are practically the same thing as mutilation except you put a piece of metal in your skin permanently. Plus, a professional does it and there's less chance for infection. Tattoos are the same idea but those don't go away so I wouldn't recommend them. Once I got my piercings and got really into getting them, I layed off the cutting because it seemed boring/pointless to me. Maybe that will work for you too.

I hope everything turns out well for you. You know yourself better than anyone, so if you think it's wrong, it probably is. Get whatever level of help you need.

Im not going to give you the answer that everyone is telling you you need help and what all. Maybe for your own good you should find something to replace that mabye when you get the urge chew gum or something.
