How can I start to go to bed earlier?!

Question: I used to go to bed by midnight, and be asleep by like 12:30, 12:45. But lately, I haven't been going to sleep until like 2, 3 or even later. I don't know why. I just haven't been sleepy until then. And I sleep in late too because I'm on break, but I'm worried about when I start college again in January... how will I be able to fall asleep early and wake up early? I take Tylenol PM at night to help, but it hasn't been helping as much. Should I switch to Unisom or something like that?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

There are some new meds available by perscription that are very safe, but first try someyhing else:
Start waking up every morning the time you're going to have to wake up for college. Set your alarm clock across the room, so you HAVE to get out of bed. Have a warm bathrobe ready so you won't jump back into that warm bed!! That is NOT ALLOWED. Daily naps are NOT ALLOWED. The bed is only for sleeping. So take a shower right away, or eat a pop tart; anything you like doing first thing. You WILL be tired the first week or so. Go to bed earlier, allowing for as many hours of sleep that you feel you need a night (I like 9, you might only need 8.) This is called a "circadian schedule." You get your body on this new schedule, and your brain will get used to it. Stick to it, and you will fall asleep when your head hits the pillow!

That should work for you as long as you can make it through the first week with no napping during the day, and no jumping back to bed when you're so very tired when the alarm goes off! Please try to stick with it!!!

There are 3 new prescription medications available that are not habit-forming--which is great! The first is Ambien CR. The CR means it helps you fall asleep and STAY asleep. I don't think you need that. The other two are Lunesta and Rozerem. They knock you right out. I've heard nothing but good things about Lunesta. Your doctor would know which is best for you.

I hope the circadian schedule (or rhythm) works for you! E-mail me if you have any questions. I wish you the very best of luck!! :)

make sure you don't nap during the day and the simple answer is to wake up earlyer and try and get through the icky early morning feeling

dont drink caffeine. if you're in the computer before you go to sleep, it hurts your sleeping pattern. try reading before you go to sleep in your bed.

getting yourself into a routine and sticking to it will help the most.

find a bedtime that works best for you and stick to it at all costs. for example, if 10pm is the time you need to be in bed then set up a routine so your IN bed by 10p at the latest (giving you 30 mins to fall asleep). eat dinner at the same time each night, do homework or watch tv,etc to relax then take a shower and go to bed. even if you're not sleepy-stick to this routine. it will take about 2 weeks but you're body should get used to it and soon your internal clock will realize when it's close to that 10pm bedtime and you'll automatically get sleepy.

avoid caffeine about 4 hours before going to sleep and avoid naps if you can (limit then to no more than 45 mins a day). avoid the computer,tv,eating, or anything else that requires you to move around after taking your shower/bath. go straight to bed-this will help relax your body and help you sleep. if you watch tv or get on the computer-it wakes your brain up, which causes the rest of your body to be awake to making it harder for you to fall asleep.

hope this helps!!

Try going to bed 20-30 minutes earlier each night until you go back. You may just need to get back in to the habit of going to sleep earlier.

If you have a t.v in your room you can turn it on and just lay down and you will fall asleep
