How to stop nose bleeding?!

Question: i have been having nose bleed very often since 4 years old, and now i m 15.

the nose bleeding happens as often as at least once a month.

I just had one this morning, and usually it would keep going on for 2-3 days, like stop for a few hours and start bleeding again and stop and repeat. Should i let the blood flow or stop it? i had tried a lot of methods, like cold water, ice, pinching nose and tilting my head backwards but nothing works well.

I consulted doctor about it before and he said it's perfectly FINE. but i dont think it is! it's not one drop or 2, it's dripping like a broken water pipe, get the image?

and oh i realised i get nose bleed when i am at somewhere with high air pressure. I remember 2 years ago when i was at Great Wall of China, my nose started bleeding and couldnt stop, and that ruined my day as my whole family get to climb up there and i was left alone behind.

i really need some help, thanks!

Nosebleeds: What to Do When Your Nose Bleeds
What should I do when I get a nosebleed?
A nosebleed can be scary to get--or see--but try to stay calm. Most nosebleeds look much worse than they really are. Almost all nosebleeds can be treated at home.

If you get a nosebleed, sit down and lean slightly forward. Keeping your head above your heart will make your nose bleed less. Lean forward so the blood will drain out of your nose instead of down the back of your throat. If you lean back, you may swallow the blood. This can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Use your thumb and index finger to squeeze together the soft portion of your nose. This area is located between the end of your nose and the hard, bony ridge that forms the bridge of your nose. Keep holding your nose until the bleeding stops. Don't let go for at least 5 minutes. If it's still bleeding, hold it again for 10 minutes straight.

You can also place a cold compress or an ice pack across the bridge of your nose.

Once the bleeding stops, don't do anything that may make it start again, such as bending over or blowing your nose.

hold your head back and put pressure on it

ok theres a bone in your nose that sticks out lol its hard lol just hold under it and face your head up not directly up :)

go to web md.... lots of good advice there

just get a tissue and cover your nose and lean your head back

plug your nose and hold your head back with a tissue

i have nose bleeds alot too but not that often. i usually just lean forward and it stops after a few minutes

put a glob of kleenx on your nose, and DON'T MOVE IT!! this causes the blood to clot. than once it stops bleeding, slowley take off the kleenx, and a big blood clot should come out.
hahha. gross. ik... but it works.

if i were you; wash your hands a millino times afterwards. =]

put an icepack on the back of your neck.. DO NOT tilt your head back the way everyone else does it and will tell you, it can make you choke. hold your nose bridge for a while and see how that goes. and sit up while your doing this.. DO NOT lay down!

Okay, dont lean your backwards cause then you can choke and thats not good. when you get another nose bleed, sit down and lean your head foward while squeezing the top of your nose. If it is really bad put cotton or something under the top of your lip. Hope it gets better

da reason y it is bleeding is becus yo nose it drying out so u need to figure out how to keep it moist and if u r takein ne medicine like nasal spray or somthin dat can trigger it to dats wat happen wit my sis so she stoped takin nasal spray

Drink ice-cold water slowly, allowing the water to cool the roof of your mouth. This will cool your nasal passages and blood vessels will contract, allowing clotting to be faster. It should stop soon after. NOTE: This will only work with slight to moderate nosebleeds.
Using an icepack over the nose may help as well.
It really works! Hope that will help you!

Well first of all, DON'T TILT YOUR HEAD BACK! You can choke on your blood while it's going to your throat. You have to pinch hard at the bridge of the nose, it's okay if it hurts. Lean forward so you can get all the blood out. After a while and it's calming down, take a piece of tissue and stick it in your nose for a while.

okay the proper method of doing this is u pinch the nose and u apply ice on the back of the neck or ur forehead and tilt ur head forward. if u think its realy serious u should go to hospital.

pinch your nostrils hard right under the bone. DONT lean back. sit straight or lean foward.
leaning back just backs you choke on the blood.
icing it also helps to shrink the blood vessels and stop bleeding faster.

i dont think u can stop it forever..but when u get it do not tilt ur head back...its not good...just pinch ur nose and look down..i hope this help cuz i dont no y u get it so much sorry

Get a second opinion from an ear, nose and throat doctor.

Fragile blood vessels in the nose can be cauterized. Also, make sure that you are not having transient bouts of high blood pressure.

the above answers is so true...
but, here's a tips..
try not to go out in the sun for so long..
its the heat that makes ur nose bleeding..

ALLISON IS AN IDIOT!!! whatever you do, DO NOT tilt your head back. pinch the bridge of your nose, and put your head down, like almost between your knees. this is advice coming from a girl raised by a bunch of doctors.

First, tilt your head back and put pressure. Ice can sometimes help. You can also use a tampon to pack it ( don't laugh, this is a common first aid practice) Don't take aspirin, or anything that contains, it because it is a blood thinner. Do see another doctor about this and if you aren't taking vitamins, start and be sure that they contain vitamin K, which helps with clotting.

Revisit your doctor - if it is causing you this much discomfort there is obviously some sort of treatment for a nose this sensitive.

Good luck!

When I was at camp my counselor volunteered to help out at a hospital. And so they taught him special training and stuff and once at camp my nose was bleeding but not crazily just for like a minute and my mom told me to keep my down up to let the blood go down back to the nose and he told me to put my head up to let all the blood go out. But in my opinion putting your head up really works for me.

I actually had the same problem from about the age of 5 until I was about 15 or 16...I'd say the best thing is to pinch your nose or stick a piece of tissue paper and let it soak. I know this might be kind of strange, but I know some people that have used a tampon...I know, a little strange and awkward, but I'd say give it a try...it might work. Tilting your head back can work, but you are also more at-risk to choking on your own blood, so I strongly recommend against it. I hope this helps...and I'm not joking or trying to be funny about the tampon thing.

stik yo hed bak

People get nose bleeds when the air is dry, or they don't drink enough water, or if you're at a high altitude (like you mentioned). To stop your nose from bleeding, just pinch your nose really hard at the base of your nose, and don't tilt your head back (or the blood will run down into your throat within 1-2 minutes). You should always try to stop your nose from bleeding, because letting it flow isn't going to help. If pressing your nose really hard, and drinking lots of water every day doesn't help, I'd suggest seeing an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor).

Hope that helps!

Tilting your head forward, not backwards, slows the flow of blood to your head. Tilting your head backwards actually increases the flow of blood to your head. Did the doctor not explain this to you? You really should see another doctor, or two, about this. I can't believe one would say that this is perfectly fine.

High air pressure? I think you mean low atomospheric pressure at high altitudes. I've met a lot of people that get nose bleeds when they're in the mountains. I think dry air can also cause such problems.

that really sucks...i know somebod who will randomly have a nose bleed, she will get up in the middle of class nd have to go to the office or something
i have heard that you are not supposed to tilt you head backward but forward i tink because if you go backward the blood just goes backinto you head it doesn't just come out or something like that 9and htis is making me sick thinking about it)

i think you should definitly consult your doctor again, if he/she does not do ne thing but say its fine, try one more time saying i dont agree, (don tbe rude about it) and see what s/he reaction is...if they still say it is not big deal and especailly if they dont explain y they think this you should ask you doctor if they have anybody that you can see for another opinion....if you dont want to ask your doctor or they dont give you ne for some reason then searchfo for one your self...online, phonebook, friends.....

GOOD LUCK!!
i agree with you to, if it was just a short amount of time your nose was bleeding and it happened every month or so then i wouldn't think much of it but if it is continuous and it doesn't stop...i would say go see a doctor....

try bringing up the fact that you think it happend when u are somewhere with high air pressure, and give the example you gave with the great wall of china (by the way that really sucks, i hate it when you miss out on fun stuff because of things like that!)
good luck!

You know I had that same problem when I was a kid and I would use the ocean mist to keep my nose moist cause that is why it was bleeding because it was to dry. I would try the do that eveyday and see what happens. I'm 22 and use that everyday still and i haven't had one for the longest time. When you do get them always make it stop never just let it go.

i got that too
af couple of years ago my nose started bleeding when i went under water, in the airplane etc.
i went to a doctor and the only time i got a nosebleed was when i was hit with a ball.( long story)
the key is vitamins.
drink carrot juice. no not the kind from the store. Sctually make your own and believe me. in a couple of weeks, the nosebleeds should stop. If they don't , you should get a second opinion because that's not normal and you have a seious problem but i'm sure that it's just a lack of vitamins.

okay
i know this sounds stupid
but put tampons in the nostrils
i broke my nose once
and the bleeding would not stop
so i inserted tampons
instead of clinex
cuz they dont work too good
and just wait for the blood to stop
and DONT tilt ur head bak
