Anyone ever have to go to the hospital to get a ring removed (from finger)...wha!

Question: My teenage daughter put a ring on her finger (a thick one resembling sterling silver) and we have tried everything to get it off.... not budging. The nurse over the phone said if all else fails, head to the ER to have them remove it. I just wonder what they will cut it off with?

thanks

They have a ring cutter that they can use to cut it off. It is like a really small cutoff saw. It has a small saw blade on the end of it with a curved shank that slides up under the ring. The shank is metal and encircles half the blade to protect the finger from getting cut. Depending on how "high tech" the place is, it may be manual or electric. The only difference is the amount of noise they make. It probably takes about 2 or 3 minutes to do and everything will be okay. I have never had one cut off but I have cut off several. Simple and painless procedure. Hope this helps.

Before going to the hospital, try putting her hand in cold ice water for as long as she can stand it (it will cause the finger to shrink some) then spray windex all over her finger and pull the ring off. If it still won't budge, a hospital or some jewelry stores will have a device that they can use to safely cut the ring off. It's hard to describe the device but it is something like a tiny manual can opener. It doesn't hurt, it just takes a lot of patience and time to cut the ring off. Good Luck!!

As a rule they don't have to cut the ring off. They use a technique with string easing the ring from the finger. It works well with dental floss, and here's the technique if you'd care to try it at home:
Slide one end of the floss under the ring, toward your palm. Then continue to wrap your finger tightly in the floss, down the finger toward the tip, basically mummifying your finger, until you get to the end. Then pick up the end of the floss that's sticking through the ring, and start unwrapping your finger from that end, and your ring will move up your finger until it's off.

cut it off with a ring cutter---painless.

This may sound silly, but before you go to the hospital to get a valuable ring ruined, I would try some "personal lubricant" you can get in a drugstore. the stuff is really slick, and i'll bet the ring pops right off.

when the traditional methods (oil, butter, water) fail, an urgent care or ER will cut the ring off.

they will first try a lube.....but then if oils or lube doesnt work..then they will most liely snip it in two....have you tried icing it to being the swelling down from trying to pull it off the try some KY jelly.......

Save the ring,cut the finger

They have like a special pair of scissors that have a bit on that slides under the ring bit on the finger and cuts it,no pain to be felt as i had to have the same thing,..you could aslo try going to a jewellers and they will do the same thing for you.Good Luck
