Can anyone help me diagnose this neck pain?!

Question: The back of my neck hurts where it connects with my skull..mostly at the base of my skull. It gradually came on two days ago and pain has stayed about the same. It hurts to push my chin to my chest very hard, i can but it hurts to push hard. It hurts to bring my head up from lying down, or to bring my head back to look up, so I am thinking it's a muscle. I went to the chiropractor and he said my neck was really out of line but he popped it back into place and put me on electricity for a bit on my shoulder muscle, but it still hurts pretty bad. It also hurts when i swallow water, not solid food, but a big gulp of water makes my NECK hurt. I'm sure it's not a sore throat..Any ideas?

Chin to Chest, requires the muscles at the back of the neck to relax while the ones at the front to pull. If a muscle has been pulled or strained then any action will result in pain. Therefore medical treatment should be anti-inflammatory drugs to kill any inflammation and then PT to get the muscles back to where they were. Not sure why you went to a Chiropractor, without first seeing a Doc. Good Luck

Go to a real doctor. Stay away from the chiropractor for your neck.

I let one treat me and I ended up having 2 cervical spine operations and fusions and I have been disabled for 10 years

You need to go to a doctor immediately. This is a symptom of Meningitis, which is a very serious illness. Thats not to say you definitely have it, but you need to be checked, especially if the Chiropractor couldn't help you. The neck stiffness and difficulty to touch your chin to your chest is a VERY bad sign.

From WebMD.com:
Here are more common signs and symptoms of both types [of Meningitis]. Not all symptoms may appear or appear in the same order. Fever, headache, and NECK STIFFNESS are the hallmark symptoms of meningitis.

Sudden high fever
Severe, persistent headache
Neck stiffness and pain that makes it difficult to touch your chin to your chest
Nausea and vomiting, sometimes along with diarrhea
Confusion and disorientation (acting "goofy")
Drowsiness or sluggishness
Eye pain or sensitivity to bright light
Muscle or joint pain or weakness

go to the family doctor where they can take a MEDICAL look at your symptoms. Please understand that chiropractors are not real medical doctors
