How do i fix my sleeping schedual? It's messing up my life?!

Question: Right now i usually sleep at about 8AM and and wake up at about 4PM everyday. This has been happening for 2 weeks now, ever since the samester ended. I have 1 more week left before i go back to school, and this schedual is going to ruine my life!!

I tried everything, i could NOT sleep at 10PM-6AM at all, i start to get tired at around 6-8AM. When i wake up at about 5PM, one method i attempted was staying up from 5PM to 8-10PM the next day, but it diddn't work, i keep falling asleep at around 8AM.

Any ideas on how to fix my screwed up schedual?

You need to start gradually fixing your sleeping schedule starting from tonight, otherwise you won't be back into schedule before you start school again.

You're getting 8 hours sleep which is plenty, you just need to gradually adjust when you go to sleep. Today, go to sleep at 7am, and then the next day go to bed 3 quarters of an hour earlier, and the next day 3 quarters of an hour earlier, etc. It may seem like a lot, but it's really your only chance of getting back on schedule for school.

During the day (every day until you go back to school) do a lot of active things. Do a sport you enjoy, jogging, a long walk, gardening, go to the gym, swimming, go out to town or bowling or playing sports with your friends, etc. You'll need to go out and get generous amounts of excercise if you want this to work. If you stay at home and do nothing, it will really screw things up.

This will make you more tired earlier. You still may not feel like you're ready to go to sleep, but you'll have to make yourself.
Make sure that the hour before you go to bed is relaxing. Try drinking hot, milky drinks like Horlicks or just some hot milk. You could try and take some sort of sleeping aid if you feel you need to. Snuggle down with the tv on quietly, a book or a magazine for an hour before you go to bed. No coffee or tea, and no games consoles, loud music etc. This will let your body know that it's time to wind down, and you'll relax, especially after a day of exercise.
Make sure that your bedroom is dark and quiet and just let yourself go to sleep. Don't read yourself to sleep or watch television until you do. Just sleep. Make sure you set your alarm so that you get 8 hours sleep, so that you're getting exactly the same amount of sleep throughout the week. This will make your schedule more consistant, even if you are totally changing it.

good luck x

try going to bed earlier and set the alarm to wake you up at the time that you want. Even if you feel sleepy afterwards, tre to control yourself. You said you're in the holidays, so maybe you're being too idle...that can make you feel sleepy. Try being more active, without making yourself too tired of course. Never mess with your sleeping time. It can affect your health.

I agree with "bush" in saying that you need to work this out slowly.. but it sounds like you dont have the time.. the only way to do this quickly is what i have to do when I travel abroad and come back with a bad case of jet lag.. you will not be able to rectify this quickly by going to bed earlier and earlier.. the only thing ive found is that you just lay there tossing and turning in bed..

What i have to do is to grab some coffee, and find something to do with my time stay up during my next sleep period, and ride it out on coffe till im exhausted.. When I come home from the other side of the world my feel like nights.. and Im ready for bed around 9am! Ill stay up, find a project get busy and pass the time, next thing i know its like 1 am and Im ready to fall over, and i sleep like a baby.. wake up a little late perhaps but within a day or two you can adjust your bedtime much better

good luck

take some kind of sleep aid that might help.
