How can I tell if my friend is dependent on narcotics?!

Question: She gets really weird every now and then... she starts slurring her words, falling asleep while doing anything (example: she'll fall asleep as she's reading or changing the TV channel, or even while eating); sometimes she gets really hyper... like obsessively cleaning to talking more than normal. She doesn't seem to notice that this is going on... she'll be falling asleep in her food, and then the next second she just pops her head back up, like nothing happened. When she does finally go to sleep, she breathes extremely heavy... so heavy she'll actually shake the bed. She has chronic migraines, so she uses something called Stadol Nasal Spray or other pain medicine. I've tried to talk to her about this, but it's really impossible. She gets very defensive and angry, and denies anything is going on. I don't know what to do... if this isn't naroctic dependence, then what could it be? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I have a brother who has been addicted to pain medication for years, specifically 80mg oxycontin. The paragraph you just wrote explains my brother EXACTLY. I believe you are correct. My brother didn't admit it at first either. We actually thought he was an alcoholic at first. We thought those actions were because he was drinking all the time. We kept asking and asking and asking and telling him we were there for him and eventually he opened up. It does suck that she yells at you and gets defensive, but keep at her. Eventually she will realize she needs help and will be glad that you are there for her. There are support groups for people who are addicted to narcotics and for those of loved ones who are addicted. Look them up online. Good luck.

I have a friend like this it appeared his medications was making him weird
Don't worry she is not using any illegal drugs .
she maybe addicted to her medications.

I take it you are having a relationship with her since you noticed she shakes the bed if so you are in the relation ship too she needs to let you know whats going on bring in a third party like an old friend that is now a counselor for this sort of thing. have a dinner out and let them be there sort of double date. set at table next to them etc. if the relation ship is close you need to find out. now. and yes I think she is under allot of stress and taking something.

Yes, it is probably one of two things. Would need even more additional info. Sounds like she is taking too much medications. And too strong of medications. Or the other possibility would be "Narcolepsy." This is excessive sleepiness that can happen at unusual times or places. Check it out on the Internet, "Narcolepsy."

the private hospital below investigate and treat the main symptoms that she has,fatigue,migraine,etc-
they know what they are doing because they are dealing with these things on a daily basis, not just treating the effects like many gps are doing
