What I did when I was angry?!

Question: I'm not depressed. I'm very happy at times it's just when I get angry I'm hysterical. I usually just bang on the wall in my room or spike a volleyball hard but I didnt feel like doing it this time. A while ago my mom gave me a surgical blade to cut out planter warts on my feet. I never used it. But I took it out of the wrapping and cut myself. The cut is so small it looks more like a scratch. I've had bigger accidental cuts with a pencil! Its about this big ----. Not very big at all. I washed it with achohol and held it hard until it stopped bleeding. I also think my sister might have seen me do it because I was crying and saying "ow" a lot. I know I probably won't do it again because I didn't like how it felt at all. In fact, it didn't help me feel any less angry. I feel angrier now then I did before. I just want to know if it will scar and if there's any other way to get my anger out.

The cut will probably heal fine, and if it scars, ti soesn;t sound like the scar will be noticable. It might be a good idea to throw the surgical blade in the trash so you can't easily do this again.

Its not easy to get rid of anger, and what works from one person may not work for someone else. No one is born with skills to cope with anger - its something you need to figure out and learn through experience. For most people, the best thing is physical exercise - like running, roller blading, riding a bike, or even walking - anything aerobic that lasts for a half hour or more. Even wandering around the mall by yourself can help. Some people find mental activities helpful, things like reading, watching video, soduku or crossword puzzles, computer games, etc.

I noticed you started out by saying you are not depressed, but excessive or irrational anger is one of the more common symptoms of depression, and especially if you get even angrier after doing something like cutting your self. Most people with mild depression are not at all sad, but their mood causes them to feel frustration and anger for no good reason. Read some web info on depression and maybe talk to the doc the next time you have an appointment if you think that mild depression could be part of the problem.

Small, superficial cuts like that might scar, but the scar will fade over time.

You need to talk to your mom about getting help with your anger. Anger management and stress management courses would be best.

Small cuts like that can scar up but the scars will fade over time.
