Can anyone help me with this slightly odd problem?!

Question: Since I had my first alcoholic drink when I was about 17 (I'm now 28), I have occasionally had a problem where I start to ache all over.
It doesn't happen every time I drink but sometimes, on my first drink of the evening, I will get a weird ache all over (mainly arms and legs) and then it goes after about five minutes.
It's not exactly a huge problem or anything but I'm just curious to know if anyone else has this problem or if anyone knows why it happens.
Thanks for your answers!

Your question made me smile as your the only other person I've heard say this. I have been almost tea total for the last 10 years (since becoming a parent). But if I have the VERY occasional glass of wine or lager after the first few sips I experience a strange 'ache' in the tops of my legs and arms. It's not painful by any means and can sometimes feel almost relaxing but is however a kind of ache. How strange we all are eh. Everyone has their oddities I suppose.

No - can't say it has ever happened to me.
Maybe it depends what you drink - I'm an ale quaffer.

sounds like the start of a stroke!

I've never heard of this before. Is it with all alcohol or the same drink? Next time you're at the Doctors ask him/her, you may have a mild sensitivity to alcohol.

yes I've experienced that but put it down to the drink being really cold, i get it in my shoulder and arm and yes it's usually the first drink, after that I'm fine, but like you say it's not all the time, i thought that was just me! lol.

If it affects you that way; why would you want to continue drinking? It can't be good for your body. Maybe those effects that you are getting are telling you that it's not a good thing for you to do. It's not good to put yourself in a situation that would hinder you from taking care of yourself if an emergency came up. You should be in control of your body at all times.
It's a strange feeling if you can't get out of a fire or call 911 if you're suddenly become ill and can't do for yourself. It has happened to me; so I know. You are the only one who you can depend on all of the time.

i cant say i have ever heard of this before. although im sure its something and nothing if it was me i would mention it to my g.p, if only for peace of mind! unless you can pinpoint it to a certain drink that is. anyway good luck .

I know what you mean haha ,sorry im not laughing at you, seriously it happens to me too,as soon as ive has a couple of sips from mt first drink my arms ache and the back of my neck, but after a couple more it goes away,The good news is it cant be very serious as im in my 50s and am still drinking,I also know someone else it happens to aswell, cos it used to worry me years ago so i was asking the same question.Hope this helps but if you are really worried about it then mention it to you,r G.P.

maybe you are allergic

It is the alcohol in your system. Nothing to worry about as long as you drink in moderation
