Hurt my ankle/foot?!

Question: Okay, so this is me being stupid, but I was playing the WII last night in heels and twisted my ankle and came down hard on it. It REALLY hurts but has very little swelling or bruising. The odd thing is it hurts less when I put pressure on it than if I were to just rest it. I know it's not broken (because that would be obvious, right?), but I don't know if I sprained it or not. that pain goes from my ankle bone (which is somewhat swollen) to about the middle toe, across the foot.

HA LOL... Dont feel stupid i did the same exact thing with my hand but insted of Wii it was Silver strike bowling (that bowling game at bars like the golden Tee) at the bar! I thought for sure that i broke it and on top of things it was my right hand, so yeah. I got xrays but nothing, she said to take some pain meds (ibprohen, asprin) elevate it (above my head) and not to use it as much. This happend to me the weekend before thanksgiving and it still hurts! If i hit it the wrong way i'm in pain! I think i went to the doc. a lillte too early cause it still should not be hurting over a month later, so i would give it a week and see what happens. But deff. get it checked out, like the others say you dont want to risk a tear or something. Good luck and people like us should be more carful when it comes to video games! boy oh boy..LOL

Sounds like a bad sprain. Rest it, keep it elevated and iced. Take anti inflammatories every 6-8 hours. Give it a week or so and if the pain isnt subsiding (it wont necessarily be away completely) then I would consider seeing the doctor to get an xray just to double check.

The best thing you can do is get an xray to be sure. A broken bone isn't always obvious. I walked on a broken ankle for 2 months until it was so annoying I couldn't stand it (I had gotten it checked by a chiropractor but w/out xrays he said it was dislocated). Anyway...it could be damage to a tendon or something else as well. Please get it checked out to avoid lasting damage. (I have achillis tendonitis from my experience 10+ years ago)

Go to the hospital or call 911 if:

You have severe pain when NOT bearing weight.
You suspect a broken bone.
The joint appears deformed.
There is an audible popping sound and immediate difficulty using the joint.
Call your doctor if:

Swelling does not go down within 2-3 days.
You have symptoms of infection -- the area becomes red, more painful, or warm, or you have a fever over 100
