Heart/Diaphragm "Fluttering"?!

Question: OK, I have this weird thing going on, and I can't seem to figure out what it is. When I lay down to bed at night, sometimes I'll start to fall asleep, and I'll wake up quickly and my heart will be "fluttering". I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but it basically just speeds up like I just saw something in a movie that made me jump. I'm not sure if I actually fall asleep or how long I'm asleep, but it'll feel like I haven't slept yet. I know that's not the case, because that will happen for what feels like hours, but somehow I still manage to wake up and feel like I've had an entire night's sleep (even if I went to bed at 3, and wake up at 8 or 9). I have no idea what's going on, and can't ask an advice nurse, as I don't have health insurance currently. Also, it's not my heart usually, it feels kind of like my diaphragm. Sometimes if I massage it before I sleep, it won't happen. I'm thinking it possibly has something to do with caffeine/asthma/sugar, I have no idea though.

HI
As an Australian I am appalled that you can even get nursing advice without health insurance, so here is some advice from someone who makes a living giving it!
