How much is too much?!

Question: I recenlty had knee surgery after a long year, I was hit by a drunk driver earlier this year and have had 3 brain and 2 L leg surgeries. I am always in pain so my doctor gave me a 25mg fenanyl patch, its like putting pure opium into my system constantly.

but this is only after being on a ton of percocet and kadian which is time released morphine( 200 mg a day!!) but i feel like a dope head,, am i considered on? I hate this feeling, its why i stopped taken the kadian and the hydro-morphine. what do u think? am i considered a doppie?

Look, you said something VERY Intelligent...You are in the care of a Pain Management Physician...Keep talking to your docs! There are going to be times when you need pain meds..now is one of those times evidently...don't ask people here for their uneducated opinion..~~although everyone has one..you know the rest..lol~~Remember this, for it is very true...Pain~gone untreated for long periods of time can severely damage the body and the mind...research that please? Best to YOU...in all aspects..hugs n pain meds for the terrible times~~{PS: It doesn't sound like you have an addictive personality, and remember, there is a difference between a physical addiction and the other...the physical addiction is inevitable, the other is not} NO YOU'RE NOT A DOPER...reread your writing!

Try to find the source of the pain instead of covering it up. Too many drugs is extremely dangerous and habit forming.

If you are stoped by the police you can and will be arested for a dui ordwi. They do not care that you have a script. And yes most people would say you are a junky. I know from exp.

Any opiates can become addictive. I'm sorry for what happened to you, but I know that you must be strong. Anyways, your not a doppie,I would consider that term for drug abusers.Youve been through a whole lot,so its really a struggle with pain management. I recommend you see your doctor about reducing the amount of meds and explain to him or her your concerns about being chemically dependent on the medications. Dont make yourself feel terrible about this.

I really am sorry to hear that you are in such pain ... Regarding the medications it might be helpful to see a doctor specialized in pain management (anesthesiologist maybe...) and after telling the doctor about your experience, follow the instructions given by the doctor instead of modifying the treatment by yourself.

wow ! you are great! to be able to wean yourself off of the meds. As you are having chronic, sever pain, due to trauma, and your doctor has prescribe this medication..it is legal and alright to take it. I wouldn't drive though, or do anything that might cause you injury, you aren't thinking to clearly. I don't think you are a doper..I think you are in terrible pain due to someone running over you. These medications will help, but, before you stop taking them, consult your doctor, the withdraw is sometimes worse than the actual woozy feeling. If you are able to handle the pain, then suggest to your doctor another way to help yourself. Until the surgery pain goes away, and you are able to deal with the pain without meds, keep taking them, ask about lowering the dose. It sounds like you were pretty messed up with that trauma and you really need your body strong, it cannot heal its self if it is having to handle the horrible pain. Let things happen, when you feel better, let the doctor know and then he can reduce your meds.
I am so sorry for your injuries!!!! I hope you are back on the mend soon.

Don't worry. As long as you have a good pain Dr. he will only try to improve quality of life. 25Mcg's is lowest dose of patch. A lot of people you would not expect wear them. After 26 surgeries from sports, I take 200Mcg's of Patch, 10 -15mg roxicodone a day and 2- 12.5 mg Halcion to sleep. also i am prescribed dexedrine to keep alert. This is 1/10 of meds I had taken in past at 1 time. I do not feel woozy or sleepy. If you have right dose you should not have any worries as long as you are comfortable. Good luck!
